Rebecca Got Her Garnished Money Back

Rebecca contacted me on a Friday in July 2026. She has a garnishmment on her bank account with the return date (that's the end date, not the start date) on Monday.

I asked her if she could take off from work on Monday; she said yes, she was already planning to show up for the court date. She didn't know what to do but she was planning to be there.

Great! I told her to follow the instructions posted here. She did.

She filled in the homestead deed and got it notarized on Saturday.

Monday morning she took the original and three copies to Circuit Court land records, as soon as the court house opened. She had cash for the $26.00 recording fee.

Monday at 11:00 was the return date at the General District Court. She made it to the right courtroom in time.

When the judge called her case, she gave a copy of the homestead deed to the judge and to the collection lawyer. The judge released the garnishment.

Two weeks later the money was back in her account.

Rebecca was at the court house Monday when they unlocked the doors. She followed my instructions and two weeks later the money was back in her account.
